Psalms 10

A Prayer for the Overthrow of the Wicked.

1 Why ado You stand far away, Lord?
Why bdo You hide
Or Your eyes
Yourself in times of trouble?
2 In darrogance the wicked hotly pursue the needy;
Or They will be caught
Let them be fcaught in the plots which they have devised.

3 For the wicked gboasts of his hsoul’s desire,
And
Or blesses the greedy man
the greedy person curses and jshows disrespect to the Lord.
4 The wicked,
Lit the height of his nose
in his haughtiness, ldoes not seek Him.
mThere is no God in all his schemes.

5 His ways nsucceed at all times;
Yet Your judgments are on high, oout of his sight;
As for all his enemies, he snorts at them.
6 He says to himself, “ pI will not be moved;
Lit To
Throughout the generations rI will not be in adversity.”
7 His smouth is full of cursing, deceit, and toppression;
uUnder his tongue is harm and injustice.
8 He sits in the vlurking places of the villages;
He wkills the innocent in the secret places;
His eyes
Lit lie in wait
surreptitiously watch for the
Or poor
,
zunfortunate.
9 He lurks in secret like aaa lion in his
Or thicket
lair;
He aclurks to catch adthe needy;
He catches the needy when he pulls him into his aenet.
10 Then he crushes the needy one, who cowers;
And
Or unhappy
unfortunate people fall by his mighty power.
11 He agsays to himself, “God has forgotten;
He has hidden His face; He will never see it.”

12 Arise, Lord; God, ahlift up Your hand.
aiDo not forget the humble.
13 Why has the wicked ajtreated God disrespectfully?
He has said to himself, “
I.e., as though God will ignore it
You will not require an account.
14 You have seen it, for You have looked at alharm and provocation to

take it into Your hand.

You have been the aphelper of the orphan.
15 aqBreak the arm of the wicked and the evildoer,
Or May You seek
,
asSeek out his wickedness until You find none.

16 The Lord is atKing forever and ever;
auNations have perished from His land.
17 Lord, You have heard the avdesire of the humble;
You will awstrengthen their heart, axYou will make Your ear attentive
18 To
Lit judge
vindicate the azorphan and the baoppressed,
So that mankind, which is of the earth, will no longer cause bbterror.
